We stopped by this restaurant around 3pm and it was so empty! Guess we avoided the dim sum lunch rush! But because we weren't too hungry, we decided to just order some dishes rather than the dim sum. We got the seafood pan fried noodles which I was a big fan of. The noodles came out perfectly crispy as if the sauce had just been poured (because I hate when the noodles get all soggy) and all of the seafood was cooked perfectly. I especially loved the white fish. We also got the three cup Taiwanese chicken. The flavors were good but this dish was just okay for me. The batter on the chicken was kind of too thick and floury for my taste. But the chicken was also cooked really well. I really want to come back to try the actual dim sum though!
Now that we have been here a few times and know the drill and what to expect I would give it five stars! The interior is exactly what I would expect from a dim sum restaurant with large tables. What we have learned from experience we is to book online early to avoid the long wait. The difference maker to boost this from four stars to five is the duck! The duck in house is great but also is just as good for takeout. Not too many places doing duck around that I know of, but this is definitely the best in the Denver metro area!
Came here for dim sum and was really pleasantly surprised by how good it was. The portions are large, quality is good, and the prices really reasonable. I came with a group of 5, and we only spent about $130 total. The pork bbq buns and taro buns were definitely my favorite. But they also do a good job with their siu Mai. Definitely come early or on a weekday otherwise you'll be waiting for a long time.
Amazing dimsum place in the denver area! We arrived at 10:20 and got in the queue and there were 41 people in front of us, estimated 1 hour wait. The wait was accurate (we had read prior reviews and were prepared for it!) when we were seated we got food very quickly as the ladies pushing the carts were coming around and it was a fantastic brunch! The food was amazing and the place was PACKED, and for good reason. Great price for a hearty meal and tons of takeout.
I was visitng Denver and a friend recommended this place for dim sum. We went for late lunch and while it was still very busy, we were able to get seated right away. The carts came by often so we didn't have to wait long to eat. We probably had a full array of tasty eats on our table within five minutes LOL Everything was so delicious! The flake factor of crust on their egg custard tarts are out of this world! The silky smooth custard was evenly cooked. Their recipe is on point, they sure know how to serve up excellent egg custard tarts! This was my favorite :) I thought their dim sum was great. The full carts came around in a timely fashion. Their customer service was polite and their jasmine tea really complimented everything well. Grateful for my friend bringing me here!
Star Kitchen is a Denver staple when it comes to dim sum. I don't think anyone would claim The Mile High as the dim sum capital of America, however this part of town is home to an abundance of incredible Asian restaurants worth checking out. Star Kitchen has been doing its thing for the better half of two decades and when you can come here you'll see what I'm talking about. It's a well oiled machine engrained in tradition, with old school tactics that play well to its kind of operation. TLDR: if you're coming here on a weekend between the hours of 10am-2pm, you can expect to wait. No exceptions. Don't fault the restaurant. They churn and burn through hundreds of hungry dim sum fanatics and make it look easy. When you come here, you're not checking out the hip, new trendy restaurant in town. Star Kitchen focuses on the food and getting you in and out relatively quickly. That's the name of the game here. Once you sit you immediately start eating, and when you're too full to move a muscle they're bringing you the check and kicking it out. Don't hate the player, hate the game! It's recommended to come here with a minimum of 4 people, so you can do significant damage through the giant menu. Here are the dishes I always order when I come here and suggest: Barbecue Roasted Duck, Shrimp Dumpling, Steamed BBQ Pork Bun, Soup Dumpling, Crystal Leek Dumpling, Siu Mai, Pan Fried Turnip Cake, Fried Sesame Ball, Pan Fried Chicken Dumpling, Cilantro Dumpling, Fried Taro Cake, and Egg Custard Tart. You can't go wrong when you come here. This place screams authentic. That's why there's a lengthy line out the door every single weekend. Like clockwork. If you're looking to gain 10 pounds, come to Star Kitchen!
I've been to Star Kitchen for both dim sum and their dinner menu. The service and quality of the food really depends on how busy they are so it's not always consistent. The parking lot is shared with multiples businesses so parking can be difficult. Dimsum hours are always busy no matter the time of day. In the beginning when they were less popular, the dimsum was great. The skin of the dumpling was nice and didn't breakdown mid bite. Now that they're busier, the dimsum can be cold, soft, or falls apart easily. I wish they still made the durian pastry rolls. They were the only dimsum location in Colorado that made it. Dinner is pretty good. If I ordered the same dish like beef chow fun in the day time, it can go either way. But for dinner, you can taste the "wok-hei". If I had the option, I would honestly come for dinner. Sometimes they'll have extra dimsum dishes so ask. My go to dishes are: beef chow fun, honey walnut shrimp, and seafood pan fried noodles. Dinner isn't as busy as brunch so you won't need to wait for a table.
Star Kitchen is 4.5 stars in my book. Round up to 5 stars. Star Kitchen is favorite for the local. Very popular. Good luck to find a seat. We were here off hour make it easy to find seat. We start with shrimp dumplings. Love it. Shrimp is fresh. Second dish is the Noamigi. I this this dish can be better. The third dish is the shrimp price paste. Very good taste. The forth dish is the beef tripe. The braise technique is good. Sugar cane fried ball. The sugar cane is the stick you can enjoy after the shrimp ball finish eating. We also got fried shrimp wonton. Crispy wonton skin. We also got chive shrimp pan fried dumplings and the final dish is the liquid soy bean Bao. Our experience here is very good. Service is good. Love to visit back.
